Our next tutor to join us from Australia was Yvette Stanton. Yvette is an embroidery designer and publisher/author of
quality whitework embroidery books. She has published and self published several
books including The left-handed embroider's companion and The right-handed
embroider's companion.
Yvette's first workshop for Quilting in the Highlands was Mountmellick Daisy and Forget-Me-Not Cushion. This workshop attracted wide selection
of students, some who had previous experience with mountmellick and those who
had never attempted this technique before. Over the two days Yvette guided the students to create these amazing cushions which we cannot wait to see the finished results.
Yvette's workshop on the Monday and Tuesday was Suzani Embroidered Applique Panel. This workshops was designed to expand the students embroidery stitch horizons with a range of stitches that can be used on raw edge appliqué. Stitches used included everything BUT the usual plain blanket stitch edging. The students learnt stitches such as Palestrina, overwrapped bullions, half chevron, couching and double chain stitch.
If you missed out on attending one of Yvette's workshops during this year's Quilting in the Highlands we have some great news that Yvette will be returning next year for Quilting in the Highlands 2014. More information will be released shortly.
