Congratulations to Our Teachers

Two of our teachers have just taken out prizes at the Sydney Quilt Show - both in the same category - New Traditions from Old Favourites.

Chris Jurd took our first place with Lots of Dots.

Deborah Louie won Third Place for Daisy Path.

Class: Chris Jurd Birds in Paradise

Yesterday was the last day for Chris Jurds Birds of Paradise. The quilts that have been made in this class as simply stunning and we can't wait to see them finished. Here are some of the photo from the class.

Show and Tell

This past week we have been shown several quilts which have been finished by the ladies who have taken classes at Berrima Patchwork this year and last year. It is always great to see the finished work.

Here is Sharon's Quilt - "Peaches" which is a class taught by Jennie Osborne featuring English paper piecing, needle turn applique and stitcheries.

This is Edith's New York Beauties Quilt which she has been working on this year. The class Edith took was with Chris Jurd - New York Beauties Quilt.

This is Nicole's quilt which is simply stunning. Nicole has been quilting for just over a year and took this class last year. The layout was designed by Nicole and we know that her children are having arguments as to who is getting this quilt. The class was with me (Tamsin) and is Patchwork Illusions. 

Chris Jurd's Class - Noodle Box (Quilt as you go!)

Here is a picture of Chris Jurd's Noodle Box classes. This is a quilt as you go class which produced some stunning quilts. Dianne's Quilt on the right hand side features sashiko in each of the centres. This quilt looks great in all the different types of fabric that were used - so many different fabrics, different looks yet the same pattern. This class will be run again later this year.

2010 Classes

The list of 2010 classes has just been released. We have yet another exciting year of classes with something for everyone from machine quilting to needle turn appliqué to painting with dyes and creating realistic landscapes. This years teachers include - Michele Hill, Deborah Louie, Kay Haerland, Chris Jurd, Jennie Osborne, Christine Sands, and myself (Tamsin).

Michele Hill is teaching twice this coming year - in March and November. Author of William Morris in Appliqué Michele's classes are based on William Morris designs. The appliqué can be by hand or machine.

Deborah has introduced two new classes this year: - a Free Motion class to give you confidence and knowledge on how to free motion your own quilts and Stage 6 Key Line Quilting is based on Deborah's award winning quilt from the Sydney Quilt Show. Using black thread the quilt design is quilted onto fabric and then coloured.

Kay Haerland is back with us for another year and her class Tactile Surface Embellishment is an fantastic class which shows you artistic techniques, which will assist you in all kinds of future quilting embellishments and landscape enhancements. Kay's classes takes you from traditional quilting techniques and guides you into creating realistic landscapes using many different techniques and methods.

Chris Jurd once again is teaching Mariner's Compass, the quilts created in the class last year where amazing and all different - check out the photos of some of the ladies work on Chris' blog. http://chrisquilts.blogspot.com/2009/10/busy-girls.html Chris this year will also be teaching a New York Beauty Class - if you want to learn how to foundation piece Chris' class is the one to do.

Jennie Osborne is teaching two stunning quilts this year - Dawn which features needle turned appliqué and hand piecing (though you could machine piece) is a large quilt suitable for a queen size bed and Peaches is a smaller quilt which features Dresden plates (paper pieced), needle turned appliqué and stitcheries. Jennie is traditionally a hand quilter and her classes are relaxed where everyone moves at their own pace. Jennie is also teaching two other classes - Introduction to Needle Turned Appliqué and Introduction to Hand Quilting, these classes are a great way to get a sample of these two techniques.

Christine Sands is our other new teacher for 2010. Christine will be teaching dressmaking and exploring your overlocker. Having years of experience teaching people of all ages and skill levels and Christine will take you through the steps to create a beautiful and wearable garment. Her overlocker classes will expand your knowledge of how to use your machine and open up whole new knowledge of what an overlocker is capable of doing.

My (Tamsin) classes this year cover everything from beginner's quilting to painting with dyes. The classes that I teach are fast and easy were you will walk away with a finished or near finished project. Three classes - Painted Geisha, The Fans and Introduction to Sashiko by Machine have an oriental theme. In Fast and Easy Log Cabin and Scrappy Schoolhouse Quilt you will be using templates/rulers designed to make the quilt construction faster and accurate. The new series of Make and Take Classes are half day classes designed to give you a taste of simple fun projects.

Mariners Compass with Chris Jurd Day 2

The ladies are all progressing well with this class. I love the range and variety of colours and fabric they are all using, there will be so stunning quilts made from this class.

Today was Chris' first class for Mariner's Compass which is a 3 day class over 3 months.

I just came out of the class and Chris has been showing the class some of her other quilt, wow they are amazing.

AND some good news we are now stocking a range of Chris' patterns. They are priced 15.50 to $26.50 and in the shop now! We will be loading them onto the website shortly.
