Show and Tell

This past week we have been shown several quilts which have been finished by the ladies who have taken classes at Berrima Patchwork this year and last year. It is always great to see the finished work.

Here is Sharon's Quilt - "Peaches" which is a class taught by Jennie Osborne featuring English paper piecing, needle turn applique and stitcheries.

This is Edith's New York Beauties Quilt which she has been working on this year. The class Edith took was with Chris Jurd - New York Beauties Quilt.

This is Nicole's quilt which is simply stunning. Nicole has been quilting for just over a year and took this class last year. The layout was designed by Nicole and we know that her children are having arguments as to who is getting this quilt. The class was with me (Tamsin) and is Patchwork Illusions. 

Changing Colour of the Seasons

Many of you who have visited the shop over the years will know that the two tree at the front of the shop are amazing throughout the year. In Summer they have this flower/blossom and then in Spring the turn stunning shades of red and year. Here are a few picture of the trees currently. The trees are a smoke bush (yes I know it is a tree but it is called a bush)

Chris Jurd's Class - Noodle Box (Quilt as you go!)

Here is a picture of Chris Jurd's Noodle Box classes. This is a quilt as you go class which produced some stunning quilts. Dianne's Quilt on the right hand side features sashiko in each of the centres. This quilt looks great in all the different types of fabric that were used - so many different fabrics, different looks yet the same pattern. This class will be run again later this year.

Michele Hill Class - The Cushion

We have been very lucky to have Michele Hill in over the past week teaching three different two day classes.

January Classes

We have had several classes this pass month. Here are some photos from The Fans class. This was the first time that this class had run, and the results were great. Everyone gets to pick three kits which make up 3 fans, depending on how the kit is sewn together the fans can vary.

This picture shows how the fans can be used in a quilt, though they could look great in a single piece as a wall hanging or combined two to create a wonderful tree skirt. Here is another fan which used the black, white and red fabric. You can make out the Eiffel tower in fabric.

Stack, Slash and Sew is another January Class that we held. This is a simple class which uses fat quarters to create a simple and fast quilt. This is an ideal class to do if you make charity quilts or want a quilt that is quilt and easy to do which takes little time to make. The range of fabrics which have been used in this class are vast but they all work! All the ladies in the class had the tops near finished with only the borders to add on at home. Machine Embroidery

I have never been one for machine embroidery until recently when I was being training on the Bernina sewing machines and found out just what these machines are able to do, now I am hooked.

We had both the 630 Artista with the embroidery module and 830 machine set up and had them stitching out some embroideries. It is amazing just how easy it is to set up the machine and to change the design, whether you want to enlarge it, reduce, move it around, add other designs and so on. Currently we are stitching up some designs to create a quilt to display in the shop.

2010 Airing of the Quilts and SALE

Yesterday was our Airing of the Quilts and annual sale which was a huge success. We had three rooms full of quilts by not only our teachers but also local quilters. Over 50 quilts were on display from quilters who had taken classes with us over the past year and other quilts they have been working on. Our teachers Kay Haerland, Jennie Osborne and Christine Sands were on hand to talk to everyone about their upcoming classes. We were also fortunate to have with us also Thea from Bernina who demonstrated the sewing machines and overlockers for us. The local newspaper came by to take photos of the day so keep an eye out in the paper for some photos! Thank-you to everyone who helped make this day a success.

Australia Day in Berrima

Berrima has been traditionally a place that the Southern Highlands come to on Australia Day. The town really is packed on this day as there is a large market in the park with live music, display of vintage vehicles, stalls, food stalls and rides for the kids. At lunch time there is a parade through the town put together by the community which often includes marching bands, clubs from the area, some of the schools also have floats and many vintage cars. It is a fun day to be had by all and really gives you a great sense of what it is to be Australian and to enjoy the day. If you haven't been to Berrima on Australia then perhaps next year it will be the place to come!

First Class of the Year

Today was our first class for 2010 - Easy and Fast Log Cabin. The ladies all had a great time and once again the selection of fabrics all varied greatly and produced fantastic results. Here are some of the photos from the class. This class will be run again in later in the year and has proved a very popular class.
