Quilting in the Highlands - Rachelle Denneny

The first of our three tutors from Australia is Rachelle Denneny. Rachelle is known for her machine quilting and machine applique. Her quilts have won numerous awards both in Australia and International. This year her quilt "Golden Ivory" was award the "Best of Australia". The first of Rachelle's workshops was Machine Quilting and Trapunto. On day one the students learn some of the basics of machine quilting, different patterns and more. The second day the students took this knowledge and skills to the next stage and learn how to create a trapunto quilt.

Rachelle's second workshop on the Monday and Tuesday was Turned Edge Machine Applique. The project of a table runner/bed runner was based on Rachelle's award winning quilt - Royal Amethyst. The students had the choice of two different colourways Royal Amethyst or Royal Sapphire. The kits were made up with fabrics from Reece Scannell and Maywood Shadowplay.

Rachelle had a stunning collection of her quilts with her during the retreat. Below are some photos of them including Royal Amethyst.

Quilting in the Highlands - Deb Karasik

Our next tutor from the US is Deb Karasik. Deb is known for her foundation paper pieced quilts with a striking appearance, often bold bright colours on a black backgrounds. Deb is an author of two quilting books - QuiltMavens Perfect Paper Piecing and Quilts With Attitude, has won many awards for her quilts and is a quilt judge.

The first workshop that Deb was teaching was Look Ma No Curves. The selection of fabrics which the students were using was so varied that it is going to be great to see the finished quilts.

Deb's second workshop for Quilting in the Highlands was Inner Light. Once again this is a paper foundation pieced quilt which has arcs. With Deb's guidance the students tackled this quilt with ease.
