International Quilt Market Houston: Schoolhouse Lectures

Over the next several days I will be posting from the International Quilt Market and Festival at Houston. First up in Quilt Market which is a trade only event to show the latest fabrics, books, notion and more.
Today was Quilt Market Schoolhouse Series which occurs the day before Quilt Market opens. The purpose of Quilt Market Schoolhouse is to help us store owners to have a more successful store. There are 291 different classes on offer with a wide range of topics. The emphasis is to introduce new products, techniques or to expand our existing programs in place in our store. It gives us a greater  insight as to what is new on the market.

The hallway during Schoolhouse lectures, everyone waiting in go into their selection rooms. There are a total of 15 session in which you can choose from around 20 different topics on offer each session. You move rooms as required and most of the session last either 30 minutes or 15 minutes. It's hectic in the hallways as everyone moves from one session to the next.
A look of the show floor taken this evening. Everyone nearly ready for the Quilt Market to start tomorrow. The store in the center bottom is Superior Thread's Stand!

More tomorrow!

Workshops with Rachelle Denneny

A great workshop that we have on offer as part of Quilting in the Highlands is Machine Quilting and Trapunto with Rachelle Denneny (Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July).

Rachelle has won numerous awards for her quilts both in Australia and Internationally. Her quilts I have to say are simply amazing, the machine quilting is wow and what is more amazing is that Rachelle sews these quilts on a domestic sewing machine!
Have you every wanted to try to machine quilt your quilts or trapunto quilting then this is the workshop that is ideal for you. This class is suitable for beginners or for those who are stuck in stipple mode and would like to move beyond. The first day will cover the basics you need to know to get started with machine quilting. Then on the second day you will take the skills you learnt on day one and learn how easy it is to enhance and add dimension to your quilting and or appliqué designs by “stuffing” them. You will have the choice of two gorgeous designs inspired by Rachelle’s new quilt ‘Golden Ivory’ (pictured).
If you would like to find out more information about this workshop and all the other workshops we have on offer as part of Quilting in the Highlands then go to www.berrimapatchwork.com.au/quilting

Secret Weapon to Clean Your Iron!

I have a new favourite quilting "thing" that I just love. These are iron clean sheets. We were told about these iron sheets by one of our teachers and so happy that I found out about them. I know all our us have had that dirty iron that is hard to clean, these sheets are a wonderful new secret weapon is for removing fusible, facings and sticky residues. Simply heat your iron, lay a Iron Clean on a paper towel, on the ironing board and then wipe the base of the iron over the sheet. Your irons becomes clean and your ready to go. We have these for purchase in our online store and in store, CLICK HERE for more information. They come in a pack of 10.
