Quilting in the Highlands - Rachelle Denneny

The first of our three tutors from Australia is Rachelle Denneny. Rachelle is known for her machine quilting and machine applique. Her quilts have won numerous awards both in Australia and International. This year her quilt "Golden Ivory" was award the "Best of Australia". The first of Rachelle's workshops was Machine Quilting and Trapunto. On day one the students learn some of the basics of machine quilting, different patterns and more. The second day the students took this knowledge and skills to the next stage and learn how to create a trapunto quilt.

Rachelle's second workshop on the Monday and Tuesday was Turned Edge Machine Applique. The project of a table runner/bed runner was based on Rachelle's award winning quilt - Royal Amethyst. The students had the choice of two different colourways Royal Amethyst or Royal Sapphire. The kits were made up with fabrics from Reece Scannell and Maywood Shadowplay.

Rachelle had a stunning collection of her quilts with her during the retreat. Below are some photos of them including Royal Amethyst.

Kit Cutting Time For the Retreat

Today is kit cutting time for our workshops which are part of our Quilting in the Highlands Retreat. These are just some of the beautiful fabrics that we have to cut up as part of Rachelle Denneny's Workshop: Turned Edge Applique by Machine.
This workshop is based on Rachelle's award winning quilt Royal Amethyst and the students will be learning Rachelle's technique of turned edge applique by machine to create a bed scarf/table runner. The students have a choice of two different colour ways - Royal Amethyst and Royal Sapphire. Plus the kit is part of the workshop and you get to use these amazing shot cottons from Reece Scannell and Maywood Studio Shadow Play Fabrics!
This workshop is part of our Quilting in the Highlands 2013 Retreat. We do still have one place in this workshop if you are interested. For more information about this workshop and the other workshops on offer go to www.berrimapatchwork.com.au/quilting

Workshops with Rachelle Denneny

A great workshop that we have on offer as part of Quilting in the Highlands is Machine Quilting and Trapunto with Rachelle Denneny (Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July).

Rachelle has won numerous awards for her quilts both in Australia and Internationally. Her quilts I have to say are simply amazing, the machine quilting is wow and what is more amazing is that Rachelle sews these quilts on a domestic sewing machine!
Have you every wanted to try to machine quilt your quilts or trapunto quilting then this is the workshop that is ideal for you. This class is suitable for beginners or for those who are stuck in stipple mode and would like to move beyond. The first day will cover the basics you need to know to get started with machine quilting. Then on the second day you will take the skills you learnt on day one and learn how easy it is to enhance and add dimension to your quilting and or appliqué designs by “stuffing” them. You will have the choice of two gorgeous designs inspired by Rachelle’s new quilt ‘Golden Ivory’ (pictured).
If you would like to find out more information about this workshop and all the other workshops we have on offer as part of Quilting in the Highlands then go to www.berrimapatchwork.com.au/quilting
